Trail Layout and Design Workshop

Registration is closed for this event
Ever wonder why we place and build trails where they are, why it twists and turns, or why it is not the most direct route? Join Senior Trail Builder Ben Sugar for this part classroom, part field-based workshop to learn about designing and laying out routes for sustainable trails.

Trimage%2823%29.pngail layout and design is the practice of combining art and science to create a route that keeps people on it, water off of it, and is harmonious with nature.

This course helps you gain or brush up on the skills and techniques necessary to design trails looking at the bigger picture of connectivity, character, and positive user experience.

This is a two-part workshop. After learning about sustainable design principles in the classroom at the Sterling Forest State Park Visitor's Center, the class heads into the field to learn how to put them into practice laying out a trail on the ground, using surveying tools to analyze grade, soils, and other local factors. The end result will be a flagged trail alignment of the same type and quality of those proposed for real world projects.

Space is limited. Please register to be provided with exact location, times and other details.
