Long Path Updates

Current conditions as of 2/15/2016

There are currently no gaps in the Long Path.
A listing of relocations is below, with references to the out-of print 5th edition of the Long Path Guide (2nd printing; 2005). We have made the full updated version available online here.

Section 2

Mile 7.75: a short relocation of the trail was finished on 4/19/16, adding about 0.05 mi to the trail.

Section 5

Mile 0.20 (posted 3/6/12): There is a minor relocation in Mt. Ivy.

Section 7

April 2016: a short relocation was built between miles 0.30 and 0.75, adding about 0.15 mi to the trail

Section 18 (new Section 20)

New trail description in the online version of Section 20. 

Section 27 (new Section 29)

Mile 3.3 - 5.2 (posted 04/2009). Mile 7.35-10.20 (posted 11/4/2005).

New trail description in the online version of Section 29.

Section 30 (new Section 32)

Relo between mile 2.05 and mile 3.15. Major rewrite of entire Section 32.

Section 33 (new Section 35)

The trail to Roemer's High Point is closed and has been replaced with the road walk described below:

2.35 At Elm Drive, the trail turns left.
2.55 Bear right onto Bush Drive.
3.30 Turn right onto Beaver Dam Road (Albany County Route 303).
3.70 Turn left into John Boyd Thacher State Park. (old 6.35)

Section 34 (new Section 36)

A relocation in the northern part of Thacher State Park brings the trail to Old Stage Road rather than Carrick Road, and eliminates approximately 0.7 miles of road walking.

Shawangunk Ridge Trail reroutes

Section G1 (posted September 2010)

Almost 2 miles of road walking have been eliminated (miles 4.7 to 6.50).The new trail description can be found in the online version of Section G1.

Section G2 (posted August 2015)

The SRT has been rerouted through Huckleberry Ridge State Forest and is blazed with blue DEC markers until it exits the state forest. The old route has been blazed white.

 

In 2014 the SRT was extended through Minnewaska State Park and Mohonk Preserve. It is co-aligned with existing trails. See SRT.

Not sure if this is the right place to make comments about specific sections or not. Tried to use fbk but no acknowledgement. Section 15 at two intersections missing turn blazes. Upper CHERRYTOWN rd and CHERRYTOWN rd. And also where Lundy road intersection with Rouge or Rogue Harbor road.
