A Minority Challenge in National Parks


But as I report in Wednesday's Times, many Americans, especially African-Americans, are missing out on the park experience, which at Yosemite includes giant Sequoia trees and rock formations like El Capitan. Common barriers for both blacks and Latinos are the cost of hotels, travel distance and a lack of information about what they can do at the parks, according to another survey by the National Park Service.
